Career-Focused Education Resource Units are for designing integrated instruction in a variety of contexts depending on the particular situation: instructional schedule; student's needs, interests, and abilities; relevant local/community issues; teaching style.The units are resources for designing problem-based learning focused on essential work-related concepts. They creatively and constructively facilitate learning for all students; enhance the effective instruction of teachers; and facilitate fully integrated problem based instruction.Consistent with contemporary delivery systems, theories of teaching and learning, and how the brain functions, activities of the resource units are: Authentic; Problem Based-Students are engaged by real world, specific problems they might encounter in work or in life; Varied-Motivating activities accommodate students' different learning styles and multiple intelligences; Connective-Teachers and students are encouraged to make links across curriculum, between school and work, between school and community, and to students' personal experiences; Active; Self Directed-Students have responsibility for planning and carrying out steps necessary for problem solution; Disciplined; Inquiry-based-Students use multiple, authoritative sources and higher order thinking skills while processing information; Reflective-Students are encouraged to stop and think about their processes of learning, expand and modify their past knowledge, and apply what they've learned to other situations; Collaborative-Students team together on selected activities and work with individuals outside the classroom to enhance their efforts.Fundamental Knowledge
